Philadelphia Will Host 2016 Democratic National Convention

Philadelphia was announced to host the 2016 Democratic National Convention, beating out a wide range of other potential cities including New York, where Brooklyn and its Barclays Center was promoted as a potential venue.

Back in July, the Republican National Committee selected Cleveland in the swing state of Ohio to host their convention, which is expected to attract 40,000 to 50,000 attendees from July 18 to 21.

The Democratic National Convention will be held at the Wells Fargo Center during the week of July 25, and is expected to attract an estimated 35,000 attendees. (The venue also hosted the 2000 Republican National Convention, which the Philadelphia Inquirer claims had a combined direct and indirect impact of $345 million on the area´s economy.)
